Spring into Summer Fitness Tips – Part 2

September 21, 2017

Dedicating your spring to fitness is the perfect way to get summer-ready with warmer weather just around the corner. We’ve got some extra tips to kick-start your fitness journey!

Winter can be cold and gloomy, and it’s totally understandable that many of us would rather be inside, warm and cosy. But spring is in, and it’s time to get moving, get out there, and get motivated. With summer just around the corner, let’s all start thinking about the fitness goals we want to kick.

Ditch the winter blues and move into summer fitter than you were with Part 2 of our workout tips.

Do it indoors

Okay, we know we just said to get out there, but you don’t necessarily have to exercise outside. As long as you’re moving, you’re making fitness progress. When it’s too hot to safely train outdoors, try some indoor exercises like a gym class, an indoor circuit, or following workout videos from the comfort of your own home. Just make sure you’re a safe distance from the sofa! If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, get a group together and try out an indoor rock climbing centre.

Enjoy the outdoors

If you DO want to exercise outside, there are plenty of activities you can try. There’s the always reliable running, jogging, and walking, but for those of you wanting to try something a little out of the ordinary, there are plenty of other options. Try biking, there are loads of cycling trails all around Perth and all capital cities. You’ll find trails in your local suburb, and off-road tracks if you prefer some mountain biking action. If you like the idea of going a little off-road but don’t want to cycle, try an awesome hiking trail and add some adventure to your walking.  Swimming is the perfect way to cool down and exercise at the same time, while jumping rope will definitely get the heart rate up.

Hit the beach

Exercising at the beach is a challenge because of the uneven surface, and soft sand. The body has to work harder and use more muscles to create momentum when walking or running. So engage those core muscles and create an invigorating exercise routine on the sand that’s guaranteed to give you a good workout. Just make sure you stretch before and after to prevent soreness and injury. Or, take a mat with you and try out some beach yoga or pilates.

Exercise in numbers

If you need a little push to get going, rally a few friends around and motivate each other to exercise by doing it together. You’re more likely to get moving if you’re going to be held accountable by your friends, and let’s face it, it’s more fun too. There are so many early morning group classes and evening bootcamps around town, and if you do your research you’ll find that many are inexpensive and can even be free!

With so many exercise options available there really is no excuse for skipping your workouts this spring and summer. Find what works for you, and start living fitter, healthier, and most importantly, happier.
